When in Rome: 3 Days in Rome Itinerary

Rome is one of the most beautiful places that I have ever been. Saying it was breathtaking would be an understatement so to share this part of my trip with my mom (and my aunt) is something we will cherish for the rest of my life. While I was only in Rome for three days, I tried to pack in as much of the city as I could but I know I will be back to get a fuller experience! If you have a few days to spend in Italy or are planning a trip to Rome and don’t know where to start - check out my itinerary and additional Rome tips!

Rome Itinerary

Day 1

  • Took the train in from Milan to meet up with my mom and aunt then we headed to our pasta and tiramisu making class

  • Walked around Ponte and did some shopping for souvenirs

  • We took a taxi to Trastevere to get some lunch

  • We saw the famous Tonnarello but decided to dine at Nannarella instead and I had the best carbonara of my life

  • After that we headed to Campo Marzio to do some more shopping before heading back to the hotel and falling asleep

Day 2

  • I work up bright and early to visit the Pantheon

  • I walked from the hotel and grabbed a pastry from Molino on the way

  • There was a long wait to get inside the Pantheon so I recommend you buy tickets online in advance

  • In the meantime, we visited the Trevi Fountain and took pictures

  • We were caught in a rainstorm while finally entering the Pantheon

  • We walked to Le Grotte for lunch then grabbed some of the best gelato from Giolitti

  • While walking around Colonna, we did some window shopping and more souvenir shopping

  • We enjoyed aperitivo at Cantina Belsiana and then grabbed dinner from Pasta in Corso

Day 3

  • For my last day in Rome and my first day alone, I woke up and visited the Spanish Steps

  • I grabbed breakfast from the fancy McDonald’s by the Spanish Steps then walked over to the Gardens of Villa Borghese

  • The gardens were absolutely beautiful and a quick walk to Terrazza del Pincio where you get a great view of the skyline of Rome

  • All that walking made me hungry so I took a taxi to Roscioli to get pizza al taglio

  • Obviously, I had to grab some gelato while I was in the area then I sat and ate at Piazza Navona

  • I did some more souvenir shopping before heading to dinner at Taverna Boccaccio

  • As I walked back to my hotel, I grabbed by last bit of gelato by Trevi Fountain

Rome Tips

  • For gelato, don’t be mesmerized by tall, decorative heaps of gelato. Look for gelaterias that have metal covers over their gelato or are flat enough to be covered.

  • Getting around is pretty easy! Taxis are cheap, Ubers are more expensive, there are scooters and walking is always an option.

  • Tasting all four of the Roman pastas (cacio e pepe, carbonara, amatriciana, and alla gricia) was a MUST DO for me and I recommend you do the same!

  • They aren’t lying about the walking! I hit over 10k steps per day without trying so please wear comfortable shoes.
