  1. Go to a pumpkin patch

Nothing says fall like a trip to a pumpkin patch. Luckily we have some great options in the DMV for pumpkin picking like Montpelier Farms. If you want family friendly, Summers Farms has a long list of fun attractions for the whole family. Butler’s Orchard is a fan favorite and it’s where I used to visit when I was a kid so it is an autumn must-see.

  2. Sip some cider

Shoutout to my cider-obsessed friend Kristie. She has me sipping on cider all over the DMV area. Doc’s Cidery has a great selection of fresh ciders and campfires for grilling hotdogs or making s’mores. For a more city-like cider experience, try Anxo Cidery in DC.

  3. Visit a cabin with friends

If you aren’t a really outdoorsy person but want to spend a weekend admiring some of Mother Nature’s creations, try a quick getaway to a cabin. I am dying to stay at the yurts at Savage River Lodge for a weekend. The Getaway House DC is a more romantic hideaway where you can share a tiny nook in the middle of nature with your significant other.

  4. Go to a drive-in

Although, I have never been to a drive-in, I am obsessed with the idea. It is a perfect girls night or date night activity. Park Up DC is still happening at RFK Stadium. Bengies has more family friendly movie options and Running Hare Vineyard has wine at their drive-in so they clearly want you to have a good time.

  5. Take a hike

Hiking is an underrated socially distant activity. Rock Creek Park and Great Falls are always good places to hike. For something new, try the Shenandoah National Park or the Maryland Heights Trail.

  6. Taste some pies

Aren’t pies a fall staple? I am tempted to add a pie reference from Sweeny Todd here but I’ll spare you. To be honest, a Patti Pie from Walmart always hits the spot but if you want a more extravagant pie experience I recommend Henry’s Soul Cafe or Pie Shop.

  7. Always time for wine

Visiting a vineyard in the fall is always a breathtaking experience. Wine tasting in the crisp, autumn air is one of my favorite fall activities. I recommend Windridge Winery or Cana Vineyards.

  8. Host a potluck

Whether it’s for Friendsgiving or a just because autumn gathering, try to get together to celebrate the season with a few friends. Hosting something intimate at your house is a great way to ensure that you are all being safe because this is still COVID season after all. I recommend using the fruits and vegetables that are in season to craft new cocktails and desserts with you friends. Nothing says friendship like a cocktail competition or a bake-off.
