Where to Eat Outside in the DMV (Before It's Too Cold)

Nothing is more unpredictable than the weather in the DMV. Before the weather gets too cold, here are some spots that you should visit with cute outdoor dining options. Want to dine indoors? Go for it! No matter the weather, these restaurants have the perfect comfort food to usher in the autumn season.

Lia’s Restaurant

I don’t want to be dramatic but this place changed my life. Lia’s is know for their pasta that is homemade, fresh every morning. Located in Chevy Chase, this casual Italian restaurant sets the bar pretty high. What blew me away the most were the risotto balls that we had as a starter. After that, I tasted the shrimp scampi and the rigatoni and they both gave my tongue a hug.

The Grill

The Grill, the newest addition to The Wharf, offers fresh, modern American fare. Sit on the patio and enjoy the views of the water as you enjoy one of their refreshing and colorful gin cocktails. I recommend getting the Pinky in the Brain and the crab cake benedict.

Botanero

I can never say no to tapas. Botanero in Rockville surpassed my expectations by bringing out plate after plate of outstanding little bites. I had to sit inside because my brother refuses to dine outdoors but the patio outside is very cute and private. Please try the brussel sprouts, flaming shrimp and empanadas! Take some empanadas to go, too.

The Block

I think I’m becoming a bit food hall obsessed because The Block recently opened a location across the street from my dad’s office. Let’s just say I’ve been a frequent visitor. This photo is from The Block at Pike & Rose which has the cutest outdoor dining area. I recommend trying a sandwich from Mama Mei’s. The Honey Walnut Shrimp Burger, Taiwanese Hot Chicken Sandwich (pictured above), and "Szechuano" Pork Cubano are all huge, delicious, and served with herb fries.

The Overall Tea:

All of these restaurants have the perfect comfort food as the brisk fall weather approaches. Lia’s and Bontanero are great places for family or group dining. The Grill has a chic bar and modern dining room perfect for dates or girls night out. Plus, the patio has relaxing views of the Potomac River. Last but not least, The Block is a cool, casual hangout with everything from birria tacos to cinnamon toast crunch ice cream. No matter where you choose to dine, you won’t be disappointed by any of these options.
